BIRMINGHAM have completed the signing of Layne Cupitt for a second season at Perry Barr.
Cupitt achieved a 4.00 average with the Brummies last season and promoter David Mason is expecting more to be added to that figure in 2018.
Mason said: “When I saw Layne was only on a four I couldn't believe it to be honest because he impressed me last season. Okay for one reason or another he didn't do as well as he'd have liked to right towards the end, but for three quarters of the season he was solid.
“Particularly in the opening half of the season he showed exactly what he is capable of when his mind is fully focused.
“That's something I'm looking forward to working with Layne on this year and I think sticking with the same club in the same surroundings is just what he needs to take that next step up the ladder.”

LEWIS Kerr believes he is returning to King’s Lynn a better rider after two years away from the Adrian Flux Arena.
Kerr rose through the ranks in the club’s National League team and then rode for the Stars as part of the Elite Draft scheme before spells with Lakeside and Somerset as well as a short-term stint at Poole as injury cover.
Kerr said: “I’ve had a couple of years away, but that’s probably done me a world of good really. I’ve gone away, learnt to ride other tracks and I think it’s made me a better rider overall.
“I feel like the time is right to come back, I’m happy to have the opportunity to ride for my local club again and I’m looking to have a good year.
“I’ve had some good memories there in the past and there will hopefully be a lot more to come, starting this season.”

BELLE Vue Director of Speedway Mark Lemon has confirmed the Aces plan to race their top-flight home fixtures on Mondays this season.
The Manchester outfit had previously operated primarily on Fridays at the National Speedway Stadium, but now return to the night they used at their previous Kirkmanshulme Lane base.
Lemon said: “We would like to thank all of our supporters for their patience on team news whilst we have been busy finalising our future business plans.
“The Aces will return to Monday race-nights as part of Premiership League set race-nights re-structure whilst our Colts will continue on Friday nights at the National Speedway Stadium.”

BELLE Vue have confirmed the return of newly-crowned Australian Champion Rohan Tungate for their 2018 SGB Premiership campaign.
Tungate helped the Aces reach the play-offs last year after joining from Somerset in mid-season and is now hoping to build on his success Down Under when he returns to the UK.
He said: “It was a real challenge, particularly going into the last round because things got so tight with Brady [Kurtz]. It was a hard-earned victory but I’m pretty happy with my performance.
“I put that down to how strongly I finished with Belle Vue last season. I was feeling good, confident, and I’m really keen now to get back to business and pick up from where we left off in 2017.
“I see no reason why I can’t translate my Aussie form back into my British racing. I’ve been training really hard because I know all the lads, particularly myself, want that league trophy this year.”

BUXTON have completed the signing of former British Under-21 Champion Ben Wilson as their fourth starter for 2018.
Wilson, with extensive senior league experience from earlier in his career, joins the Hitmen after spending last season with the Isle of Wight where he averaged 8.05.
He said: “It is a fresh challenge for me at Hi-Edge Raceway, it’s a track I’ve also ridden well on and scored well on when visiting with other clubs, and a big thing for me this year is that it is a weekend track and it’s local.
“I enjoyed my time on the Isle of Wight last season but have to admit that the travelling was a lot for home meetings, especially when having to get to work the following day, but it was an enjoyable time.
“The Buxton team is taking shape and I’m looking forward to the season starting, I already know Connor (Coles) who rode with me for the Warriors last season, and Tom (Woolley) knows the place well so we can hopefully have a good season for the Hitmen this year.”
