Solid on track debut for Boat Works Racing BMW GT4

The Boat Works Sanctuary Cove Boat Show BMW GT4 has had a successful on-track debut in practice for the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 hour at Mt Panorama today.

The car was shared through the three sessions by car owner Tony Longhurst, Bathurst debutant Matt Brabham and fellow third-generation driver Aaron Seton.

The car was in the top three of its class in each of three sessions, the last of which was cut short because of a two-car incident at The Chase.

Practice will continue tomorrow with a session from 8.55am to 9.35am and there will be qualifying for all classes from 11.05am to 11.50am.

There will be a further qualifying session for Class A cars from 11.55am to 12.25pm and then a Top 10 Shootout from 4.15pm to 5pm.

Sunday’s race will start in the dark at 5.45am and conclude at 5.45pm.

WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY:

TONY LONGHURST
“It has been a good day for us,” said Longhurst.

“I think the standout for us was Matt (Brabham) who has never been here before and did a really good job. It was great to have the car in the top three of our class in each session. It is very difficult being in a class car with the speed of the other cars coming up on you. It put the wind up me a few times.

“I got boxed up on the outside a couple of times when I thought one car was coming through and all of a sudden there was a second and then a third. Apart from that the Boat Works, Sanctuary Cove Boat Show BMW GT4 has been great and we are looking forward to tomorrow and then Sunday.”

MATT BRABHAM
“Obviously this was a pretty special day to be doing my first laps in a race car at Mt Panorama,” said Brabham.

“It was on a steep learning curve learning the car and track, but a lot of fun.

“The car has been really great to drive so far and Aaron and Tony have been helping me out and bringing me up to speed.

“I have had a pretty big smile on my face all day and hopefully that will stay there.

“I have some little things I need to refine. The regular corners down the bottom I am up to speed with because they are pretty regular stuff, but I have some work to do on the top of the mountain through the esses and into the dipper is where I need to improve a little bit. That will come through more laps and confidence.

“It was good to get the laps this morning because I only got a couple this afternoon because of the wreck at the Chase.

“I got caught up in that a little when I hit some oil and had to gather it up, but thankfully I got through it ok with a little excursion on the grass. Oil is never a great thing to hit at a place like this, but thankfully it was at a reasonably safe place and I got through it OK.”

AARON SETON
“It is pretty cool to be out here with Tony and Matt in the Boat Works, Sanctuary Cove Boat Show BMW,” said Seton.

“All the sessions were very strong and I am really looking forward to getting out there tomorrow for our last practice session and qualifying.

“This car can be compared to driving on a Playstation game. It is very smooth and nice to drive and I am really enjoying it. The whole thing has been a great experience to be here in a different type of car and adding to my driving skills.

“I am learning a lot off Tony, Matt and dad (Glenn Seton), and hopefully we can have a good race on Sunday.”
