MP Motorsport signs Isac Blomqvist for debut F4 season

Prominent Dutch single-seater team MP Motorsport has signed Isac Blomqvist as the first driver to its 2018 Formula 4 ranks - the youngster from Uppsala in Sweden stepping up from karting to make his car racing debut.

Having won two consecutive titles in both the SMP NEZ and Spanish F4 championships with Richard Verschoor and Christian Lundgaard, MP Motorsport was keen to maintain its position at the top – signing Blomqvist is the first step in assembling yet another winning driver line-up.

Blomqvist makes the move from karting this year having made an impact on a Swedish national level, before going on to compete at European level for the past three years.

“It’s wonderful to be making my motorsport debut with a renowned team such as MP Motorsport”, said Blomqvist, “My first test in December went well and that got me all the more excited to step up to single-seaters for 2018. I’m sure that with the support of MP I will be able to do well in my first year in motor racing."

“Signing Isac is an important part of our plan to maintain our winning ways in Formula 4, in the same way as we have done in the past two seasons”, said Sander Dorsman, team manager at MP Motorsport, “We are confident Isac will be a cornerstone in our 2018 F4 effort, as we go into the season aiming for a third set of F4 titles.”

Blomqvist began karting in 2011, winning the Swedish MKR Junior 60 series in 2012 and the Southern Swedish Kart Champion Cup for KF Juniors in 2014 before taking second in the 2015 Swedish KF Junior Championship.

Having debuted at the same level in CIK-FIA and WSK in 2015, Blomqvist moved to OK Junior in 2016, taking seventh in the WSK Champions Cup while taking two thirds in the CIK-FIA Championship and having a shot at the title until the final round at Genk. In 2017, the Swede stepped up to the OK class proper.
