Blancpain Endurance Regular Morris To Deputise For Andy Meyrick In GT4 European

Welshman makes GT4 debut this coming weekend in Hungary

Seb Morris will make a surprise debut in the GT4 European Series at the Hungaroring near Budapest this coming weekend, 1st/2nd September, where he will stand-in for injured friend, and manager, Andy Meyrick.

Replacing Meyrick at Bullitt Racing, where he will share a Mercedes-AMG GT4 with the Spanish squad’s owner Stephen Pattrick, 22-year-old Morris will make his first ever competitive appearance in GT4 and will only sample the car for the first time during pre-event testing on Friday, 31st August.

Ordinarily, of course, Chester-based Morris races a more powerful GT3 specification Bentley Continental in the Blancpain Endurance Cup where he has become a multiple Pro-Am podium finisher in his maiden season in the globe’s biggest and most competitive GT3 championship.

Aiming to make that experience count when he lines-up on the GT4 European Series grid a few days from now, MSA Team UK driver and BRDC Superstar Morris is grateful for the opportunity extended to him by both Meyrick – who is still recovering from injuries sustained in a huge accident last month in the Total 24 Hours of Spa – and Bullitt Racing boss Pattrick.

“It’s all been a bit of an eleventh-hour development”, said Morris, “But, naturally, I’m delighted to be standing in for Andy while he continues to recover from the accident at Spa and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the Mercedes AMG-GT4 for the first time.

“Andy speaks very highly of the car and the team, so I’m really looking forward to the opportunity and aiming to put on a good show for the guys at Bullitt Racing. I haven’t been to Hungaroring since I raced in GP3 back in 2015, but I’m sure we’ll be up to speed without too much trouble.”

Meyrick has been an integral part of Morris’ motorsport career from the latter’s formative days in karting and has been instrumental in the immense success multiple car racing champion Morris has attained over the years.

July’s Total 24 Hours of Spa, where Meyrick joined Morris, Derek Pierce and Rob Smith at Team Parker Racing in the Bentley Continental GT3, ended worryingly when Meyrick was caught-up in a very nasty accident with a rival Lamborghini. Sustaining a variety of fractures, and requiring urgent hospital treatment, those injuries are the reason Meyrick has to forego this weekend’s action.

Following a pair of free practice sessions on Friday, 31st August, qualifying for the weekend’s two races at the Hungaroring will get underway at 16.55 (local time). On Saturday, 1st September, race one will begin at 12.20 (local time) with race two following on Sunday, 2nd September, at 11.15 (local time)
