1000 Miglia Warm Up USA 2024 kicks off

The wait is over for the fifth edition of the 1000 Miglia Warm Up USA, the event based in Middleburg with 20 crews covering 800 kilometres over three legs in the Washington D.C. area. The Warm Up format, designed to prepare drivers for the sporting part of the 1000 Miglia in Italy, will consist of a training day at Summit Point Raceway, followed by three days of racing with a total of 118 Time Trials and 8 Average Trials.

The car fleet includes models produced between 1927 and 1957, the two decades in which the 1000 Miglia was held, including a 1957 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS Spider Zagato and a 1950 Ferrari 166 Touring Coupé; and modern vehicles. Up for grabs for the winners are 6 guarantees of admission to the 1000 Miglia 2025, four reserved for the 1000 Miglia Era class, for the first two classified belonging to the Veteran (which includes crews in which at least one driver has taken part in no less than two 1000 Miglia in the last ten years) and Novice categories; and two for the Post 1000 Miglia Era class, which includes vehicles built after 1958, for the two winners of the Veteran and Novice categories.

Today began at 9:00 am with the departure of the first car from the Salamander Resort, the 340-acre oasis also awarded by the Forbes Travel Guide in which the participants are staying, to reach the Summit Point circuit where theory and practice sessions will take place to familiarise themselves with the regularity race techniques. Once broken in, the crews will compete in the Micro 1000 Miglia, a trophy of 4 Time Trials and an Average Trial along the route back to the Salamander Resort.

The race starts today and the crews will cover approximately 340 kilometres circumnavigating Shenandoah National Park. The second leg will cross into West Virginia and return to the Summit Point circuit before returning in the afternoon to Middleburg where the exciting 1 vs 1 Middleburg Trophy challenge will take place in the town centre. On the third and final day of competition, it will be Maryland’s turn, after which the event will travel through the heart of Washington DC to the Italian Embassy in the United States.
