Autodromo Varano celebrates the history of Italian motorsport

With the fourth edition of "ASI in Pista"

 

A Saturday weekend with the scent of history on the streets of the Varano de' Melegari racetrack. The track named after Riccardo Paletti, the beating heart of the Motor Valley, hosted the fourth edition of “ASI in Pista”, a special track day dedicated to historic cars organized by the Automotoclub Storico Italiano. For this event, 200 historic cars took to the track. A festive paddock and a great atmosphere to pay homage to cars that have made the history of motorsport and Italian automotive. In fact, racing cars built up to 1994 – divided into the categories formula, sports prototypes, tourism and rally – were among the participants in this great exhibition, joined by sports models of great historical and collector interest assembled up to 2004. The beautiful 1973 Abarth SE027, produced in only three units worldwide, took the scepter at the end of the day. By the way, the first model built in Carlo Abarth's factory and the only one left in Italy today took to the asphalt of the Varano circuit.
 

In addition to the queen of the day, however, numerous prizes were awarded: the “Tributo Tricolore” (Bosato Formula Junior – 1959); the “Trofeo Monoposto” (Brabham GT 30 Formula 2 – 1970); “Pista per Tutti” (Formula Italia – 1974); “Rally Per Tutti” (Fiat Ritmo 75 Gr. 2 – 1972); “Youngtimer” (Audi TT 3.2 Quattro – 2004); “Nate per Correre” (Lancia Delta S4 Gr. B – 1986); “Queen of Rally” (Fiat 131 Abarth Gr. 4 – 1976).

 

During the event, a special homologation session even took place, thanks to the intervention of the ASI Technical Commission, in order to issue Certificates of Historical Relevance and ASI Identity. This ended with the delivery of the “Targa Oro” to a model inextricably linked to the city of Varano, namely the Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo Group 5, protagonist of the World Championship for Makes from 1979 to 1981. Dallara contributed to the design, and today it is meticulously preserved in the Dallara Museum. The “Targa Oro” was received by Giampaolo Dallara himself, the founding engineer of the Parma company. Finally, it is worth highlighting the great commitment from the point of view of sustainability: the models used a special bio-fuel that allowed a saving of half a ton of CO2 in the total emissions of the day.

 

With the fourth edition of “ASI in Pista” another page of the bond that has always linked the Autodromo di Varano de' Melegari and the history of Italian Motorsport has ended, waiting to celebrate the next chapter.
