For many the ultimate ‘modern classic’, when it comes to Porsche’s iconic 911 sportscar, it is the ‘Gen 2’ version of the 997-series which is deemed one of the most desirable model generations! Announced on the Porsche website in early June 2008, the newcomer boasted revised DFI (direct fuel injection) engines that were stronger and more powerful than their predecessors plus recalibrated suspension, subtle styling tweaks, and the option of Porsche’s dual-clutch PDK transmission. Significantly smaller and lighter than its 991- and 992-series successors, the 997.2 also did without its feel-sapping electric power steering. The 997 Carrera 4S was, and still is, widely regarded as the greatest non-turbo version of the 911 with the four-wheel drive system providing the grip that ensured stable handling and predictable cornering.
