Trident GP2 Dubai, Race 2

Trident Racing ended the last round of the 2008 GP2 Asia Schedule with a good team effort at Dubai Autodrome.

The second race of the weekend was positive for Ho Pin Tung, who took the checkered flag in 5th position, while Harald Schlegelmilch completed an impressive comeback by ending up in 8th.

Unfortunately, after the post-race inspection of Tung`s car, the stewards found the right side of the back underpanel to be lower than allowed by rules, due to the detachment of the two tie-rods.

Despite the fact that the panel was completely regular, and that the deformation was only due to race incidents, the stewards decided to keep their resolution and exclude Tung from the final classification. That brought up and unexpected disappointment for all the team, as the Chinese driver stayed at the top all-day long, completing an impressive run. As a consequence, Schlegelmilch moved up to 7th: the Latvian driver put together a spectacular comeback from the back of the pack. Trident Racing wishes to thank its GP2 Asia Series` drivers for their good races in a particularly challenging series. The team`s effort will be now focusing on the opening round of the GP2 Main Series, starting in two weeks at Barcelona.Alessandro Alunni Bravi, Managing Director“Today`s Race 2 ended up in an unexpected fashion for Trident Racing as, at the end of a great race for the whole team, Ho Pin Tung was excluded from the final classification. The Chinese driver lost a stunning 5th place as, despite the recognized unintentional nature of the infringement, the stewards decided to uphold their decision, like previously happened at Dubai to Sebastien Buemi. We feel disappointed for not having the deserved recognition of our efforts, but we had another confirmation of our good performance level. Harald did a great job too by nearing the points zone at the end of a really tenacious race”.
