Jeremy Metcalfe produced a thoroughly dominant performance at Knockhill Circuit in Scotland yesterday, Saturday, 12th April, to earn his maiden Avon Tyres British GT Championship race win – having earlier scorched to his first ever category pole position.The Hampshire racer, who celebrated his 20th birthday on Wednesday, leapt to the top of the times a third of the way through the 15-minute qualifying session with a superb lap of 51.129 seconds (89.51mph), over a 10th of a second quicker than fellow CR Scuderia runner Michael Meadows at the short 1.28-mile Fife track.Beginning the one-hour endurance encounter from the best possible place on the grid, Jeremy maintained his advantage as the race got underway even though rain just prior to the start had threatened to cause problems.Each time he built up a gap, the Safety Car was deployed and so Jeremy’s lead would be negated. The British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star coped superbly with everything the opening stint could throw at him though and was never headed.Handing the car over to Luke Hines as the third Safety Car period took place, Jeremy’s team-mate went on to steer the No.16 Ferrari 430 GT3 home five and a half seconds clear of the second placed Trimite Brookspeed Viper Competition Coupe. After such an outstanding win for the pair, the Metcalfe/Hines partnership is now firmly in the title race.Commenting on his debut victory in sportscars, during only his second weekend in the category, a delighted Jeremy said: “It feels great to get our first win. It was tricky at the start as the track was pretty greasy after the rain. I took it easy for the first few laps and made sure I didn’t make any mistakes, especially as the Safety Car came out three times during my stint. “This stopped us building up a decent gap but it was okay as Luke went out there and did a great job. I want to say thanks to the team who all did a fantastic job, each and every one of them.”During the second 15-minute qualifying session yesterday afternoon, Hines posted the fourth fastest time of 51.119 seconds (89.53mph). For today’s one-hour race, Hines will start and Jeremy will take over the car for the second stint.The faultless performance shown during round three lifts Jeremy and Luke into joint fifth position in the headline GT3 Class standings on 10 points, just one point adrift of third place heading into this afternoon’s fourth round of the season.Warm-up ahead of the fourth round of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship is timetabled to take place later this morning, Sunday, 13th April, at 10.53 with the race itself set to get underway at 13.38.
