AFTER ROUND FOUR DISAPPOINTMENTJeremy Metcalfe’s bid for a second successive Avon Tyres British GT Championship podium finish at Knockhill, following on from his stunning debut victory at the Scottish track on Saturday, unfortunately came to nothing yesterday afternoon, Sunday, 13th April, following contact from a rival during a robust fourth round of the 2008 season.While Saturday’s race performance, coupled with his stunning pole position lap in qualifying, was undoubtedly the Fleet racer’s best outing since switching to sportscars at the start of the year, Sunday afternoon’s encounter ended with disappointment through no fault of either Jeremy or team-mate Luke Hines.Former British Touring Car Championship race winner Hines took the first stint and came into the pits to hand over to Jeremy at the midway point in sixth position, although the pair’s CR Scuderia run Ferrari 430 GT3 was carrying a damaged rear diffuser – the result of contact from another car earlier in the race.Swift repairs from the CRS mechanics ensured Jeremy would be able to join the race but contact from the Chad Racing GT3 entry of Peter Bamford ruled him out of the reckoning. As it currently stands, the incident is subject to investigation by officials.“The damage we took to the rear of the car cost us a bit of time but we worked our way up to eighth and were going well when Bamford turned in on me and that was it, game over”, explained Jeremy, “The team did everything they could and so did Luke and I but sometimes, whatever you do, it just doesn’t go your way.”Having been joint-fifth in the headline GT3 Class standings following the round three race win, Sunday afternoon’s retirement means Jeremy is now equal 13th in the British GT Championship standings.Nonetheless, the performance and pace the 20-year-old British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star has shown this weekend bodes very well indeed for the remainder of the season. There is now a lengthy six-week break ahead of the fifth and sixth rounds of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship which will take place on Sunday, 25th May, and Spring Bank Holiday Monday, 26th May, at Rockingham in Northamptonshire.Before then, coverage of the third and fourth rounds of the British GT Championship will be shown on digital satellite and cable channel Motors TV. The first screening is scheduled for Saturday, 26th April, at 18.00 with two additional airings on Monday, 28th April, at 04.00 and 10.00.
