MARKO ASMER ENGAGED FOR THE EUROSERIES 3000
Master stroke for TP Formula that engages the current BMW Sauber F1 Team test driver, Marko Asmer. Together they will start the next Euroseries 3000 season and it is clear that they aim at the top straight away.
Estonian 23-year-old Marko Asmer burst onto international racing radars in 1999 when aged 15 he won the Nordic, Finnish, Baltic and Estonian karting championships in one season and in 2001 he was honored as the world’s most talented kart driver. He moved up to Formula Ford in 2003, earning five victories and came runner-up in the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch. In the same year he was invited to get behind the wheel of a Formula One car for the first time to take a test for the BMW WilliamsF1 Team. Then, last year, another important milestone in his career when he graduated British F3 champion with 3 rounds still to go and 11 victories.
Following the conquest of this title, a goal reached by drivers of the calibre of Senna, Piquet, Hakkinen and Barrichello, BMW Sauber F1 Team engaged Marko who is now their official test driver. The Estonian will debut on track with the Traini-Pomozzi team next Thursday in Vallelunga for a common test session in view of the opening race, scheduled for the same weekend.
Marko Asmer: “I’m happy to get the chance to race with TP Formula in Euroseries 3000. It’s a competitive series and should complement my Formula One testing duties with BMW Sauber F1 Team well. At the moment we have agreed to do the first race and are working on a budget for the remainder of the season. It will be quite exciting to race a car that I haven’t even tested yet! I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel”.
