Corvette supercars ....

ready for starring role at Silverstone

Corvette Z06 to act as official FIA ‘Safety Car’ and lead Supercar Tour Corvette C6R and C6 cars to contest GT1, GT3 and GT4 races Corvette Z06 supercars will top the all-star cast list of sports racing cars heading to the famous Silverstone race circuit this weekend for the opening round of the 2008 FIA GT Championship.

As the Official Car Supplier to this Silverstone event, Corvette will provide the lead-car for the pre-event ‘London-to-Silverstone Supercar Tour’ on Friday (18 April).  The UK’s biggest supercar run will witness 50 sports cars from the world’s most charismatic brands, led by a 505 ps V8 Corvette Z06, driving in convoy from the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall to the circuit to deliver the famous Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy which will be awarded to Sunday’s race winner.  Previous winners of this prestigious prize include F1 champions Graham Hill and Denny Hulme and British motorsport heroes Derek Bell and Stirling Moss.

Throughout Silverstone’s busy weekend of practising, qualifying and racing, a 198 mph Corvette Z06 will act as the official FIA GT ‘Safety Car’ pacing the field before the rolling-starts and responding to incidents during races.

Corvettes will also be racing in three categories – with three C6R cars and one C5R in the GT1 category of the FIA GT Championship, at least three Z06 cars in GT3 (defending its 2007 team championship crown) and an all-new official CCHE (Cadillac, Corvette & Hummer Europe) entry for a Corvette C6 making its competition world premiere in the GT4 class.  Prepared by last year’s GT3-winning Callaway team, this new racer will be driven by Rogier Kroymans and Danny van Dongen.
