Fisichella Motor Sport International embarked on a new challenge for the team at the weekend in Barcelona, Spain, as the Italian squad competed in its first weekend of the brand new Formula BMW Europe championship.
The event was a support race for the Formula One World Championship at the Circuit de Catalunya, and FMSI fielded Pedro Bianchini, Mihai Marinescu and Ollie Millroy for the weekend's two races. Bianchini finished Saturday and Sunday's races in sixth and 11th respectively, with Marinescu finishing seventh on Saturday and tenth on Sunday. Millroy finished out of the points in 16th on Saturday and was unfortunately unable to finish on Sunday.
After two out of 16 races, Bianchini is seventh in the championship with19 points, with Marinescu just one point behind in eighth place. Ollie Millroy has yet to open his points account. After winning both of the opening races, Eifelland Racing's Adrien Tambay is leading the series with62 points. Fisichella Motor Sport International is fifth in the team standings with 37 points, just one point behind fourth-placed Double R Racing.
The Formula BMW Europe championship will resume on 30 May at Circuit Zolder, Belgium.
