Historic racing weekend for Silverstone

A tremendous line-up of over 300 sports, saloons and single-seaters from the 1950s through to the 1980s will be in action when the Historic Sports Car Club organises two days of racing on the International circuit at Silverstone over the weekend of 10/11 May.

With racing covering everything from an MG Midget to a Formula 5000 Lola T400 single-seater, the meeting has wide appeal and with adult admission just £10 each day and children admitted free, either Saturday or Sunday will be a great value day out for all the family.

Not only will full grids produce some great racing, the paddock will be packed with a glorious array of racing machinery and visitors to Silverstone will have ample chance to get up close to the cars and drivers in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Adding an international flavour to the weekend will be the cars in the Historic Formula 2 Trophy, and this race will carry a famous Silverstone title; the International Trophy. With a strong field of Formula 2 racing cars from the late 1960s and 1970s, the field includes drivers from Sweden and France as well as the British contingent.

Local drivers are well represented in the entry, including Northampton brothers Gary and John Pearson who will share a classic Jaguar E Type in the two-driver Guards Trophy race. In the race for historic racing saloon cars, Banbury's Roger Godfrey is a leading contender in his Mini Cooper S and could even win overall if the track is wet, such is the pace of his Mini against the Lotus Cortinas, Ford Mustangs and BMWs that set the pace. Heading the Mustang contingent is Daventry's Peter Hallford.

In the Formula Junior race, the wonderful 1960-vintage Lotus 18 of Northampton racer Jon Milicevic is one of the leading entries.

On Saturday, qualifying starts at 9am and the first of six races is at 2pm. On Sunday, qualifying starts at 10am and the first of eight races is at 12noon.
