Lockie set for Group C debut at Spa

Calum Lockie will realise a long-held ambition when he races a Group C car at Spa-Francorchamps next weekend (17/18 May) in the opening races of the Group C/GTP season.Lockie has been invited to share the Nissan RC90K of Peter Sowerby in the 90-minute two-driver races at Spa, Silverstone, Donington Park and, subject to the date being confirmed, Jarama this season. Calum says that the chance to race one of the iconic sports cars of recent racing history at the finest track in the world will be one of the highlights of his career."Group C cars are very exciting and Peter has been very kind in asking me to join him," said Calum after testing the car at Silverstone recently. "It's always been an ambition of mine to drive a Group C car, so it will be fantastic to get into such a good one. Spa in a Group C car will be tremendous; that's got to be one of the best car and circuit combinations of the lot!"Lockie will share the driving in the 90-minute races that will be a feature of the Group C schedule and says that the Nissan makes you re-set your brain, so impressive are its capabilities."It's an absolutely stunning machine; 900 kilos with 810bhp and torque by the truckload," he said. "It's got so much downforce and that's the thing you've got to re-set your brain with about these cars. It's also about how late you can brake; you can brake from 185mph with absolutely full physical force and you won't lock up. The rate at which the cars slow down is quite incredible. Then its how quickly you can go into and through the corners. I'm very grateful to Peter for the chance to drive it and the first race at Spa is going to be amazing!"
