THE wait is over! Fresh from supporting the 2008 Gulf Air Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix, the V8 Supercars have roared into Rockingham ready for action.
The Northamptonshire circuit has taken delivery of its newest fleet of racing cars, and with their 5.7 litre engines still warm, the thrilling V8's will be used for the first time later this month (May).
The high-performance machines will make their debut on Wednesday, May 21, when guests on the superb Rockingham Masterclass driving day will be strapped in for an exhilarating drive.
Uniquely in the UK, guests at Rockingham can now experience first-hand a fully race prepared, rear-wheel drive racing car capable of reaching a breathtaking 170mph.
Manufactured by General Motors in Australia, the Chevrolet Lumina SS V8s have a whopping 380bhp and are fitted with full roll cages, racing seats and harnesses.
Just like the British Touring Cars, the V8s are based on road cars which means drivers of all abilities can enjoy the full racing experience, yet still feel in control.
Charlotte Orton, Director of Sales & Marketing at Rockingham, said: “We have been waiting for the cars to arrive for what seems a long time, but finally we have the keys to these awesome racing machines.
“The V8 Supercars have a reputation of being racing thoroughbreds and we are confident that they will fast become a favourite with our guests on driving days.
“These high-performance cars are awesome to watch as racing machines, but will be even more exhilarating to drive and will be a great asset to the Rockingham fleet.”
The exciting V8 machines will feature on the MasterClass and TrackPro packages and will be used on the Rockingham’s 1.7 mile National Circuit, which has everything from long straights to technical corners and tight hairpins.
In addition to the new V8 saloons, guests can experience the thrills of driving single-seaters at Rockingham, in the shape of an authentic Formula One car or its younger brother, the Formula Three.
Rockingham now has one of the largest fleets of genuine racing cars of any circuit in the UK available to guests - and driving challenges which cannot be repeated anywhere else.
