Dreelan and Lyons join Carrera Cup grid

Two new drivers will join the Porsche Carrera Cup GB grid for rounds nine and ten at Croft (31 May/1 June), when Tommy Dreelan and Bob Lyons make their debuts in the pro-am2 category. The Scottish racers will join the championship in their pre-2008 model 911GT3 Cup cars and will race in the new pro-am2 category. The Aberdeen racers also intend to contest their home races at Knockhill in August and could add further Carrera Cup outings to their schedule as the season develops. A three-car entry is likely for other events. Both Dreelan and Lyons will step up from the Porsche Open for the Croft weekend. "I'm reasonably new into racing, but I'm really looking forward to the weekend," said Dreelan. "We realise that there are a lot of very good drivers in the Carrera Cup, so we're just looking forward to the whole experience. I can't wait to do the Knockhill races, and then we'll see where it goes from there."Both Dreelan and Lyons hope to build their racing experience by competing in the Carrera Cup and are making use of the new pro-am2 category to tackle selected race weekends. The pro-am2 category was introduced for the 2008 season and offers drivers in pre-2008 model cars the chance to compete for separate points and end-of-season prize money. It is aimed at drivers keen to try the Carrera Cup without making the commitment required to contest a full season in the pro and pro-am1 categories, which are only open to 2008 model cars.Joining Dreelan and Lyons in the pro-am2 field for Croft will be teenager Glynn Geddie (17) in the PCGB entry. Geddie, son of established Porsche racer Jim, is another Aberdeen-based Scot and already has some experience of racing a 911GT3 Cup car. "I'm starting to get to grips with the car and this should be very good experience for me, particularly running with such a good team," said Geddie. "It will be interesting to see how the Carrera Cup goes."
