Speedy Racing Team Sebah announce today that their regular Le Mans Series drivers, namely Xavier Pompidou (France), Andrea Belicchi (Italy) and Steve Zacchia (Switzerland), will form their driver line-up for the 2008 Le Mans 24 Hours.
Making the announcement, Team Manager of the Anglo-Swiss team, Bart Hayden, said:
« During the first three races of this year’s Le Mans Series, our three drivers have all worked well together. They have all showed a good turn of speed, they’ve been consistent and shared the team spirit; I trust that they will help the team and our partners at LEMO, Rebellion Timepieces and Speedy Garage achieve the result that we are all hoping for at Le Mans. »
Speedy Racing Team Sebah are running car number 33 at this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours. Entered in the LMP2 prototype category, the car is a Lola B08/80 coupé chassis, powered by the Judd DB engine and running on Michelin tyres.
The most experienced of the team’s drivers, Xavier Pompidou has already run at Le Mans five times in both prototypes (1998, 2000, 2001) and the GT class (2005, 2006). « I am very excited about going to Le Mans with a prototype again. The team is strong and experienced, we have a better understanding of the car, my team-mates have Le Mans experience and we’ve shown good pace in the Le Mans Series, so I am optimistic. For the final result it’s hard to say now, but we definitively target a very good result !
Andrea Belicchi is also no stranger to Le Mans. He was a Spyker Squadron driver last year in GT2. « It’s wonderful for me to be competing in back to back Le Mans races and this year to be driving a car like the Lola Coupé - Judd LMP2. I have enjoyed a highly positive experience with the team and the car in the three first races of the Le Mans Series, so I am confident for the race ».
For Steve Zacchia, this year will be his first Le Mans 24 Hours aboard a prototype, he finished fourth in 2003 with a Viper GTS-R in the GTS class. « I am really pleased to be back at Le Mans, especially with a good team and a great car. It’s a long and hard race but I can’t wait to drive the car on such a circuit. I think we proved that we can run very competitively at the front, so I hope we will be able to do it all race long ».
