Historic Saloons get Grand Prix slot

Historic saloon cars will feature as a support race to the 2008 British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday 6 July following confirmation that the Historic Sports Car Club has been invited to organise a race for pre 1966 cars.

The race, which is likely to run after the Formula 1 feature event on Sunday afternoon, should provide an exciting race from a huge variety of cars. It is sure to be a popular feature of the weekend for the capacity crowd and represent a rare opportunity for saloon car racers to compete at such a prestigious event.

"We are delighted to have been invited to organise the historic support race at the British Grand Prix meeting for the third year running," said Grahame White, chief executive of the HSCC. "We can start 48 cars on the Grand Prix circuit, and I am hopeful that we can fill the grid very quickly."

The race will include the type of cars that competed in the early years of the British Saloon Car Championship, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this season.

Any drivers interested in entering the race should contact the HSCC office as soon as possible on 01327 8584500, by fax to 01327 858500 and by e-mail to office@hscc.org.uk
