Metcalfe heads to for British GT

Jeremy Metcalfe is relishing the prospect of racing his Ferrari 430 GT3 car at Snetterton in Norfolk this coming weekend, 7th/8th June, during the seventh and eighth rounds of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship.Heading into the event joint-seventh in the standings alongside team-mate Luke Hines, which is effectively fourth in the championship in terms of driver pairings, Fleet resident Jeremy is confident of continuing the recent run of points scores which started with a fantastic maiden British GT victory for the 20-year-old at Knockhill in April.Something extra to consider this weekend though is the recent re-equalisation of the Lamborghinis and the Dodge Vipers by championship officials, the move giving those cars a performance boost. With that in mind, the challenge at Snetterton could be the toughest so far for the CR Scuderia duo. With just nine points separating Jeremy and Luke from the lead of the title race, there really is everything to play for at the Norfolk track – a circuit where British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star Jeremy has enjoyed a good level of success in the past.During his final season in Formula Renault UK last year, the Hampshire ace raced from ninth on the grid to an incredible podium finish during the category’s visit to Snetterton. In addition, he also piloted a 425bhp World Series by Renault single-seater, a Porsche Carrera Cup racer and a powerful Mercedes DTM touring car at the 1.95-mile track during evaluations for the 2006 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award in which he was one of just six finalists.Looking ahead to next weekend’s action, Jeremy said: “I haven’t been to Snetterton in the Ferrari yet but I’m confident we’ll be strong for the next two rounds and I’m looking forward to the event. The Ferraris were quick there last year but, like Rockingham, we’ll have to see how it pans out with the re-equalisation of the other cars.“I’m confident we can put a good race together and I’m sure we’ll be challenging for more big points. I’m happy with the way the season is going so far, the team is working very well and I’m having a great time in the Ferrari – it’s a fantastic car to race.”The seventh and eighth rounds of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship will take place this coming weekend, 7th/8th June, at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk. Free practice starts at 09.00 on Saturday, 7th June, with qualifying set to follow at 13.05. The first race of the weekend will then commence at 16.40 with race two following at 14.00 on Sunday, 8th June.
