Lloyd Celebrates End Of GCSE Exams

WITH OULTON TESTGinetta Junior Championship race winner Daniel Lloyd celebrated the end of his GCSE exams today, Friday, 20th June, the best way he knows how – by taking the opportunity to enjoy half a day’s testing at the picturesque Oulton Park Island Circuit.Concluding his final exam, Physics, this morning at Huddersfield Grammar School, the Scammonden based teenager wasted no time in packing away his stationery before making the 60-mile journey to the Cheshire venue where he produced an impressive display at the wheel of his British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Stars of Tomorrow car.Although a general test day open to all manner of different race machinery, several of the 16-year-old’s chief championship rivals were also present at Oulton Park including Thomas Carnaby, George Richardson, Josh Hill and Fergus Walkinshaw. While his fellow Ginetta Junior competitors all had the benefit of a full day’s running, Daniel’s Physics exam meant he only arrived at the track just prior to the lunch break but he made the most of his time on circuit and for the majority of the afternoon he was the fastest of the Ginetta runners.“It was a relief to finish my exams this morning, I’m glad they’re over!”, said Daniel, “To have the chance to go straight from school to Oulton for the test was great and even though it was very busy on track we had some good running.“We managed to do about three laps just before lunch to shake the car down but then the first afternoon session was shortened due to someone dropping oil on the circuit. The last session was very busy with traffic but we did some good laps.”The West Yorkshire racer added: “Considering the other Ginetta Junior drivers had been on track for half a day before we got there, I’m really pleased with our pace. I was fastest for most of the afternoon and although I lost out by a couple of 10ths of a second on the last lap at the end, I’m very confident we’ll be competitive for the Oulton races at the end of July.”Back behind the wheel of his Ginetta Junior car for the first time since his stunning double race victory at Croft in North Yorkshire three weeks ago, Daniel is expected to enjoy a further test outing at Snetterton Circuit within the next couple of weeks ahead of the 13th and 14th rounds of the season at the Norfolk track on 12th/13th July.Provisional 2008 Ginetta Junior Championship Positions (after Rd12)1st Dino Zamparelli, 351pts; 2nd Thomas Carnaby, 274pts; 3rd Daniel Lloyd, 253pts
