Motorings Greener Future...

ON SHOW IN LONDON

The future of greener motoring will be on display at The British International Motor Show (ExCeL London, 23 July to 3 August), alongside demonstrations of how drivers can cut vehicle emissions and lower running costs.

Organisers of the Show have partnered with The Co-operative Insurance and the Department for Transport's ACT ON CO2 campaign to create ‘The Co-operative Insurance Greener Driving Pavilion in association with ACT ON CO2’.

A first for The British International Motor Show, the pavilion will feature interactive displays, vehicle cutaways and simulators. A range of exciting new environmental automotive technologies will also be showcased, including fuel cells, electric vehicles and hybrids.

In the Pavilion, drivers will be offered simple tips on ways they can make a difference to the environment and their bank balance. Those looking for further guidance on purchasing a fuel efficient car and driving it in a more fuel efficient way can visit the ACT ON CO2 website: dft.gov.uk/actonco2.

The Co-operative Insurance Greener Driving Pavilion in association with ACT ON CO2 is also supported by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP), What Car? and Michelin, which will demonstrate the benefits of its latest low-rolling resistance tyres.

Visitors to the Greener Driving Pavilion could be in with a chance of winning a new Mazda2 supermini, courtesy of The Co-operative Insurance. The Mazda2 is one of the greenest, most fuel-efficient cars in its class, helped by being a remarkable 100kg lighter than its predecessor.

The Co-operative Insurance Greener Driving Pavilion in association with ACT ON CO2 will help ensure this year’s Show is set to be the biggest and best yet, with over 500,000 visitors expected to attend. Cutting fuel costs and lowering CO2 emissions are hot topics for motorists and car makers alike, and a significant proportion of the 600 vehicles on display at the Show will boast ‘green’ credentials.

Transport Minister Jim Fitzpatrick said:

"We can all make changes to our every day activities to help towards tackling climate change.  I am delighted that the British International Motor Show has taken this oppotunity to focus on greener vehicle options and help motorists reduce their impact on the environment – and make cost savings at the same time."

David Neave, Director of General Insurance at The Co-operative Insurance said: “In order to encourage even more people to adopt a ‘green driving’ ethos The Co-operative Insurance has teamed up with Department for Transport's ACT ON CO2 campaign. The Greener Driving Pavilion aims to explain the latest developments in green car technology as well as provide practical tips and advice on how fuel efficient driving and car choice can save money and reduce CO2.”

The Co-operative Insurance is a firm believer that every person – male and female - can make a ‘tiny difference’ to climate change. There is now firm evidence that suggests motor vehicle emissions are having a detrimental impact on the environment. The combination of purchasing a fuel efficient car along with driving style and the development of unique eco motor insurance products like our own, allows drivers to do just that.”

Tickets for the Show start at just £10 for an adult weekday pass and £6 for a child’s ticket. Tickets are available through the Show’s website at britishmotorshow.co.uk or by calling 0871 230 5588.
