Idafar Stuns FRUK Regulars In Testing

Formula Renault BARC Championship front-runner Menasheh Idafar stunned regulars from the sister Formula Renault UK category at Snetterton Circuit yesterday, Wednesday, 2nd July, with a simply breathtaking performance at the wheel of his Hillspeed run car.Remaining at the Norfolk track for a second day of action, the 17-year-old was joined at the official Formula Renault UK test by six fellow competitors from the BARC level series but Menasheh was head and shoulders above all of them.Running in full BARC specification during the four-hour morning session, Menasheh lapped the 1.95-mile track with a best time of 1m 06.107 seconds (106.29mph) which placed him an impressive 17th overall on the timesheets and the fastest of the BARC runners by almost two 10ths of a second. In the afternoon, the British-born Bahraini ran without the BARC engine restrictor plate in his car and although completing just 20 laps during the three-hour stint he produced an outstanding time of 1m 05.859 seconds (106.69mph). Placing him a superb 13th overall, just six 10ths of a second shy of the fastest time of the day by a current specification Formula Renault UK car, Menasheh was also by far the quickest BARC driver. He also outpaced a large number of racers at the wheel of UK cars, including current Formula Renault BARC Championship leader Ollie Hancock.Furthermore, Menasheh ended session two just 0.034 seconds shy of current Formula Renault UK Championship leader Adam Christodoulou and just over a 10th of a second away from Formula Renault UK race winner Alexander Sims.“I’m so happy with today’s test, it’s been fantastic and to end the second session in 13th position overall was great”, said a delighted Menasheh, “We went well in the morning and then, when we took the restrictor plate out for the afternoon, we lapped as quickly as some very fast drivers from the UK championship. I’m really pleased.”Overall for the day, Menasheh achieved the 14th fastest lap on combined times and on the back of two very good days of testing at the Norfolk venue, the Ortolan, Gulfol and Gulf Computer Services backed racer is now highly confident for the Snetterton rounds of the Formula Renault BARC series which take place on Saturday, 9th August.Matt Shawyer, Hillspeed driver coach, added: “It really has been a great day. In BARC spec Menasheh was two 10ths of a second faster than last year’s pole position time and this afternoon his performance without the restrictor was exceptional. In actual fact, his best rolling lap was right up there at the top of the times. He’s driven superbly today.”Next on Menasheh’s race timetable will be the sixth and seventh rounds of the Formula Renault BARC Championship at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire just over a fortnight from now over the weekend 19th/20th July.Provisional 2008 Formula Renault BARC Championship Standings (after Rd5)1st Ollie Hancock, 64pts; 2nd Menasheh Idafar, 47pts; 3rd Johannes Seidlitz, 38pts
