Harvey and Hancock set for Supercup race
Porsche Carrera Cup GB contenders Tim Harvey and Sam Hancock will line up next to each other on the 30-car grid for the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup race at Silverstone today at the British Grand Prix meeting. The two Carrera Cup title contenders are making the step up for their home round of the international series with the support of PCGB, with Harvey running with his regular Red Line Racing team and Hancock with Jota Sport. They will race ahead of the British Grand Prix in front of a sell-out 100,000 crowd. Both drivers qualified two seconds away from pole position on the 3-mile Silverstone Grand Prix circuit as just 2.6s covered the top 28 cars on the hugely competitive grid. Getting to grips with the differing grip levels available following Formula 1 running is always a big challenge in the Porsche Supercup and a rain shower mid-way through Saturday's qualifying session interrupted their running.Hancock finished the session 23rd with Harvey 24th, their times split by eight-hundredths of a second. "We've been battling with understeer all weekend," said Hancock. "We've got a lot to learn and I'm just looking forward to a good race," he said.Elsewhere on the grid, former Carrera Cup GB champion Damien Faulkner was sixth fastest for SAS-Lechner Racing, while his team mate and former Carrera Cup race winner Danny Watts was 12th fastest. After Sunday's race at Silverstone, Harvey and Hancock will switch their focus back to the Carrera Cup GB, which resumes at Snetterton on 12/13 July after a mid-season break.
