Disappointing GP2 qualifier for Trident

Hockenheim, July 19, 2008

Qualifying#20 Mike Conway,  20th place#21 Ho Pin Tung,   17th place The first day at Hockenheim was extremely tough for Trident Racing, as the on-track results didn`t match the early expectations. Mike Conway had an hard luck, ending up off-track after having turned just a couple of laps. As a consequence, the British driver, coming at Hockenheim for the first time, lost any chance to learn the track in time, and that eventually compromised the result of the following Qualifying session. Conway had to settle for 20th, while Ho Pin Tung ended up in 17th, improving by 4 spots his practice result. The first race of the weekend, scheduled for today 16:00, will be an extremely difficult one for the Italian team: fortunately, Hockenheim offers several possible passing opportunities, leaving hopes for a battling recovery.Ho Pin Tung“Yesterday`s result was conditioned by the missed chance to improve with new tires. Unfortunately, after clocking a good time in the first sector, I committed a small mistake and then I was slowed down by traffic in the final minutes. It`s bad because we had a positive feeling from practice, and high expectations we hoped to turn into concrete results in qualifying. I hope to be able to recover on Race 1, since on passing is relatively easy on this track.” Mike Conway“Yesterday morning`s off-track couldn`t come in a worst moment. Due to a small mistake at turn 12, I couldn`t take advantage from the practice session. While that wouldn`t have been a huge problem elsewhere, on an unknown track like Hockenheim I found myself forced to find my reference points in qualifying, losing time and ending up with a disappointing final result.”
