Conway and Tung get familiar ...

Race 1: Conway-Tung (Dodge Viper) 1st placeRace 2: Conway-Tung (Dodge Viper) 4th placeMike and Ho Pin took a week off from their GP2 commitments and entered, as a way to familiarize with the new Valencia Street Circuit, the fourth round of the International GT Open.

Trident Racing, thanks to the kind support by Scuderia La Torre, had the chance to let its driver have a first glimpse of the Spanish racetrack, built around Valencia`s port and marina. The two were paired behind the wheel of a Dodge Viper Competition Coupe. Though the main target was to get a grip with the circuit, the two did it literally by winning the first race of the weekend with a considerable margin. As set by the rulebook, they paid the price of their Race 1 win with an higher time handicap during the driver change on Race 2, but eventually managed to end up in 4th. As Trident Racing will face the Budapest GP2 Main Series race on the next weekend, Conway an Tung will be ready for the challenge back at Valencia.Mike Conway“We experienced a really positive weekend. Our goal was to familiarize with an unknown track, but we enjoyed our stay for many other reasons. First of all, I liked the track a lot, I was expecting a classic street-course, but this one has many fast corners with several passing opportunities, and that`ll be appreciated in the GP2 Series. Then, we had a lot of fun and we even won! It wasn`t an easy job though, since temperatures were very high and it has been tough to come to the end. I think this race will prove very useful when we`ll be back with the GP2 Main Series”.Ho Pin Tung“It was really hot in there! We eventually made it at the end, but it wasn`t a relaxing off-week. Our Viper, which is front-engined, had an extremely high temperature in the cockpit. The track was great, and I think we`ll be really fast on our GP2 cars: at the end of the weekend, we took a pole position and a race 1 win that definitely boosted our mood. Our focus will be switching immediately to Budapest, where we`ll try to start at the top since practice”.
