Metcalfe confident ahead of Silverstone

von Tyres British GT Championship race winner Jeremy Metcalfe wants nothing less than victory this coming Sunday, 17th August, when the 13th round of the season takes place at Silverstone International Circuit in Northamptonshire.Marking the first two-hour endurance event of the 2008 campaign, the longest car race of Jeremy’s career, the 20-year-old from Fleet is confident he and CR Scuderia team-mate Luke Hines will be able to challenge for the win at the wheel of their Ferrari 430.Bidding to end the year as the runner-up pairing in British GT – the destiny of the title having already been decided during the previous round at Brands Hatch in Kent – the duo is aiming to record its fifth podium finish of the campaign and, more importantly, its second race victory.“It’ll be great to be involved in my first two hour race”, commented Jeremy, “To me it’s just another race but I do think Luke and I stand a great chance of a very good result as we’re both young and so our fitness should be a big advantage.“The team should also be very strong when it comes to the pit-stop for refuelling and tyre changes due to the experience CRS has of running in the FIA GT Championship. When we were at Silverstone for the Media Day back in March the Ferrari felt very good so I’m feeling very confident and really looking forward to next Sunday’s race.”As a British Racing Drivers’ Club Rising Star, Jeremy will be keen to secure a successful result at the home of the BRDC having enjoyed an excellent maiden season of GT race action so far in 2008. The CRS team is also one of several squads to have been boosted by the implementation of a weight reduction on its cars.Jeremy added: “With 40kg taken off the cars our competitiveness will only be enhanced so things do look very positive for Silverstone. I’m really looking forward to having an hour in the car, it’ll be something new for me but a challenge I can’t wait for. Realistically, I think a win is on the cards but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”Qualifying for round 13 of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship is timetabled to take place at 14.10 on Saturday, 16th August, following a free practice session at 09.25. The first two-hour race of the season will begin at 13.20 on Sunday, 17th August.Provisional Avon Tyres British GT Championship Driver Standings (after Rd12):Champions: James Gornall & Jon Barnes, 75pts; =5th Jeremy Metcalfe & Luke Hines, 46pts
