for Team Mopar Driver Cindi Lux
Real World Venue Puts Focus on Mopar's Authentic Performance
Cindi Lux has never raced on the streets of Detroit's Belle Isle before. Like everyone in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) SPEED World Challenge GT Series, Sunday's 50-minute race will be the Aloha, Ore.-resident's first opportunity to hit the roadways of the Motor City with the No. 2 Team Mopar Dodge Viper Competition Coupe. However, for Lux, the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix has a sense of home. The 12-time road racing champion has spent much of her summer in the Detroit area this year having temporarily moved the team's shop from the Northwest to Livonia, Mich. The new base of operations has allowed Lux to take advantage of Michigan's location to travel to races east of the Mississippi River and greater access to the automotive minds at the Center Line, Mich. headquarters of Chrysler LLC. Furthermore, Detroit is the headquarters of Mopar, Lux's primary partner in the pursuit of victories in the road car-based series, and the amount of well-wishing support flowing from the area can only be compared to a hometown event.
Lux and Team Mopar will also benefit from another 'homegrown' event; the Viper Owners Invitational 10 (VOI.10). Dodge Vipers from around the world will descend on Detroit this week for their 10th annual meeting. VOI.10 will have multiple special events centered around the first visit of World Challenge to the Detroit Grand Prix and many of the attendees will be cheering for the Mopar machine. Lux will return the favor making several appearances at VOI and welcoming two lucky winners onto her team at the track.
For Mopar, the effort to bring what they learn at the 2.096-mile, 14-turn temporary street course laid out on Belle Isle to the cars and trucks that brought the fans to track is nothing new. For seven decades, the official parts supplier of Chrysler LLC has used its "Authentic Performance" concept to bring racing technologies to the real world. Every component on Lux's Dodge Viper Comp. Coupe has a Mopar parts number that corresponds to the Mopar parts catalog and is available for purchase to the general public. A do-it-yourselfer or any certified Mopar service department can build a "dream come true" Chrysler product from the catalog. It can be done one bolt-on item at a time or with every performance, appearance or replacement part all at once. Even the V10- powered, front-engine, rear-wheel drive Dodge Viper Competition Coupe has an official Mopar part number and can be ordered through the catalog as a turn-key racer.
This event is a unique opportunity for Mopar and Dodge Motorsports engineers to use real streets to test the technologies found in the No. 2 Viper Comp. Coupe. Since Lux's first race of the season, the Grand Prix of Long Beach, Mopar has supplied components for the Viper Comp. Coupe to Lux Performance Group, LLC to install and test on the race version of America's supercar. Working closely with Dodge Motorsports, these parts are then studied for performance and reliability with the results fed back to engineers working on the next generation of Chrysler street cars. The technologies developed through Team Mopar's motorsports efforts can be seen across the Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep product lines; "Authentic Performance".
The Detroit round of the GT championship can be seen on SPEED Channel at Noon (ET), September 12. Live timing and scoring can be found at: World-Challenge.com.
QuotesCindi Lux: "The combination of the Viper Owners Invitational and the Belle Isle race going on at that same time in Detroit is fantastic. I am going to have a lot of Viper fans and owners out there in the stands at this race cheering on our Mopar Viper this weekend and its going to be really cool. We will have a lot of work to do against the other manufacturers' race cars as most of them have recently received some type of performance advantage from the sanctioning series. All that does is fire me up more to get our car towards the front this weekend. Flying the Mopar banner this weekend is a huge privilege for me and I hope to put on a good show."
Sunil Lahoti, Senior Manager - Mopar Marketing and Brand Strategy, Chrysler LLC.: "Coming off a recent third top-10 finish in '08 at Road America, Mopar Performance couldn't be more excited to bring Cindi to our hometown for the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. Team Mopar fans will be at the Labor Day race in droves to cheer for Cindi as she continues her winning momentum behind the wheel of her factory- backed No. 2 Mopar Dodge Viper Competition Coupe."
70 Years of Mopar When Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts manufacturer, supplier and distribution system to support the growing enterprise led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC) in 1929.
