Hitech Junior back in action

IN GERMANY

After a lengthy eight-week break, Hitech Junior returns to racing action with the next rounds of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Championship at the Nürburgring this weekend. After a strong showing last time out in Hungary and a third place finish before that, the Silverstone based team has high hopes of a return to the podium in Germany. The David Hayle-led team will once again field four cars in the next rounds of the championship. One for 16 year-old Spanish sensation Miki Monras, who secured the team’s first podium finish and rapid Colombian Esteban Jacobo and two for rising British stars Richard Singleton and Luciano Bacheta.

The Eurocup series is one of the most competitive single-seater championships in Europe, borne out by the fact that in Hungary no fewer than 26 cars were covered by just one second. Last time out all four drivers showed immense maturity over the course of the weekend with 20 year-old Singleton setting the early pace for the team during free practice, regularly swapping fastest lap times with the championship leader.

Monras led the team in the qualifying session for the shoot-out, easily putting him into the superpole session.  In the qualification race Jacobo posted the second fastest time in the race while Race Drivers Academy driver Bacheta had his storming drive cut short after being taken out two corners from home.

Although the overall results did not reflect their impressive showing, all four drivers have impressed team owner David Hayle as he looks to a repeat performance this weekend.

“We are a new team in a new championship with young rookie drivers and have been very impressed with their performances.  The Eurocup is so strong but all four drivers have throughout the season shown some incredible pace and great maturity.

“As always qualifying is critical and this is one area that we are working on to ensure the drivers can maximise their time in the session and so give them an early advantage when it comes to converting that into race results.

This weekend kicks off with free practice and qualifying on Friday prior to two races around the famous Grand Prix circuit on Saturday and Sunday.
