AS Roma on top as Superleague

Formula prepares for kick-off

AS Roma, the Superleague Formula team which is run by Fisichella Motor Sport International, got off to a great start in the new championship today by finishing at the top of the timesheets at the official testing day at Donington in the UK. The six event calendar kicks off at the Derbyshire track this weekend, and AS Roma will be gunning for glory at the inaugural race.

Enrico Toccacelo is leading the charge for the team and, with a background in Formula 1 testing with Minardi and as a runner-up in the2004 International Formula 3000 Championship, the Roman is a pair of safe hands in which to place the AS Roma car.

AS Roma will compete against European rivals, AC Milan, PSV Eindhoven, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Olympiacos, FC Porto, Borussia Dortmund, RSC Anderlecht, FC Basel, Sevilla, Rangers and Galatasaray.  International competition will come from Brazilian rivals Flamengo and Corinthians; Chinese club Beijing Guoan and UAE team, Al Ain.

The Superleague Formula championship will kick off at Britain's Donington Park circuit this weekend, August 30/31.

Enrico Toccacelo: "We finished fastest in both this morning's and this afternoon's sessions and have been really happy with our day. The track was faster this morning and I set a time of 1:18.2s, which was three tenths faster than Sevilla. This afternoon it was a little bit slower and I set a time of 18.7, with AC Milan second fastest and Galatasaray in third. The car felt good, we tried different set-ups and had no big problems so we're confident ahead of this weekend's race. I'm sure it's going to be a tough weekend but we are here to fight at the top."
