Ginetta Junior Championship

RED FLAGS BLUNT LLOYD’S TESTING PACE AT SILVERSTONEHuddersfield racing driver Daniel Lloyd produced the eighth quickest time at Silverstone National Circuit yesterday afternoon, Friday, 29th August, during pre-event testing ahead of the weekend’s 19th and 20th rounds of the Ginetta Junior Championship.Marking the start of a highly important 10 days for the Ginetta Junior competitors – the subsequent two rounds of the campaign set to be contested next weekend at Mallory Park – today’s test saw 16-year-old Daniel unable to show his true pace in the end due to three stoppages interrupting each of his attempts to produce one of the quickest laps.Running at the head of the times for the opening 10 minutes of the session, the Scammonden based racer concluded the test with a best lap of 1m 14.514 seconds (79.18mph) which ended up being the eighth fastest time. Daniel commented: “We were quickest for the first 10 laps, I came in for some new tyres and then, when we went back out, we had red flags before I was able to post a really quick time. We tried another two times and each run was halted by red flags again so in the end we couldn’t show our true speed.“It’s been quite frustrating but we should be ok in qualifying tomorrow. It’s going to be very close in the races so it’ll be important to start on the first couple of rows if we can. I’d like to be on the podium but we’ll have to see what happens.”Qualifying for rounds 19 and 20 of the 2008 Ginetta Junior Championship will take place at 11.30 this morning, Saturday, 30th August, with the first race of the weekend set to follow at 17.05. Round 20, which will be screened live on Freeview, digital satellite and cable channel ITV4, is timetabled to begin at 14.45 on Sunday, 31st August.Away from the racetrack, the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Stars of Tomorrow Scholarship Winner has received good news regarding his recent GCSE examinations; Daniel achieved one A* grade, an A grade, two B grades and two C grades.Provisional 2008 Ginetta Junior Championship Positions (after Rd18):1st Thomas Carnaby, 467pts; 2nd Dino Zamparelli, 455pts; 4th Daniel Lloyd, 327pts
