in Superleague Formula
AS Roma, which is run by Fisichella Motor Sport International, got off to a very positive start in the inaugural event of the Superleague Formula last weekend at Donington in the UK, with Enrico Tocaccelo leading the team to second place in the first race, securing the team with its first ever podium.
In the new series, which sees motor racing merge with football in a fusion of two of the world's most popular sports, the fans get to watch two exciting races on a Sunday. The first race sees teams line up as per the order from Saturday's qualifying but, in an unusual twist, the second race has a complete reverse grid from the results of race one.
After Saturday's qualifying shoot-out, AS Roma lined up on the third row of the grid in sixth position, with Tocaccelo going on to finish in a strong second position on the podium. In the afternoon's reversed grid race, where Tocacello begin just one position from the back, he managed to work his way up to tenth position by the chequered flag.
After the first round of the championship, AS Roma is in fifth position with63 points. The team is now looking forward to the next round at the Nurburgring in Germany on 21 September where it will be aiming to fight for victory.
Enrico Toccacelo: "In the first race I had a really good start, made up two places then chased the Sevilla car. I started to close the gap a bit to Davide [Rigon] and Beijing, but our times were very similar and I wasn't able to get close enough. I am now really confident for the rest of the season. The guys did a really good job and I am very happy."Click here for the Official Fisichella Motorsportweb site - designed and built by Racecar
