Season Finalé at Shelsley Walsh

The exciting and record breaking 2008 at World Famous Shelsley Walsh draws to a conclusion on the weekend of 20th and 21st September with two one-day meetings.

There will be an end-of-term celebration feel to the weekend with competitors having one more blast before autumn sets in with a long winter ahead. It is your last chance in 2008 to see the historic hill tackled by enthusiastic competitors who want the late season stimulation of pitting their skills against the oldest race track of them all.

The Saturday event features a round of the Toyo Tires Midland Speed Championship plus rounds of the Ginetta Owner's Club Speed Championship, Westfield Championship, the Reliant Scimitar & Sabre Speed Championship and the Triumph TR Revington Speed Championship.

An unusual entry is Leighton Hughes in a totally standard Vauxhall Vectra V6. Leighton proves that motor sport is possible on the tightest budget as the car cost only £900, and remarkably in 2007 he won his class championship in the Welsh Sprint and Hillclimb series!

There are also five classes of motorcycles competing in what will be a very exciting section of the event. Local driver Jon Beard from Stourport is taking a weekend off from his regular role in the Midland Hillclimb Rescue unit to compete in his hot hatch modern classic Peugeot 205 GTi on both days.

Shelsley Walsh watermill mastermind Martyn Herridge from nearby Dunley will be out in his locally built Bewley Suzuki single-seater. Newly crowned Midland Hillclimb Champion Peter Cox from Abberley on the other side of the valley will be driving his regular mount, the classic Chevron B42 formerly known as 'Old Bendy' until Peter re-jigged the chassis.

Favourite for Best Time of the Day on both days must be Yarkhill's Deryk Young, currently in ninth place in the MSA British Hillclimb Championship driving his Gould GR55 powered by an ex F1 Judd V8. His wife Sue, who is the Shelsley Walsh Ladies outright hill record holder will be sharing the car.

Sunday is a round of the Richard Egger Insurance/HSA Speed Championship plus rounds of the Morgan Sports Car Club 'Parc Ferme' Speed Championship, the TVR Car Club Speed Championship and the Austin Healey Club "HealeySport" Speed Championship.

Andy Platt takes a break from competing in the 2 litre class of the MSA British Hillclimb Championship to share his wife Julie's Lotus Exige. Look out for Will Hall from Romsley who recently took a third place in a round of the MSA British Hillclimb Championship in a Force racing car of only 1300cc capacity.

Shelsley Walsh is AA signposted approximately 10 miles North West of Worcester. Practice starts at 9:30 am on both days and the each event starts after lunch at 2:00 pm. Admission is £14 on both days and accompanied children under 16 get in free.

This includes parking, transfer to the paddock, and seated trackside enclosures. Excellent catering and light refreshment/bar facilities are available as are a range of souvenirs and regalia. Shelsley Walsh will be back next spring with “The May Midlander” on Sunday 3^rd and Bank Holiday Monday 4^th May 2009, a round of the Midland Hillclimb Championship.
