Seasons Finalé at Shelsley Walsh

Competitors and spectators enjoyed a weekend of fine weather at Shelsley Walsh as the 2008 season came to a close.

There was some great competition and some fascinating cars to watch as Yarkhill, Herefordshire driver Deryk Young took Best Time of the Day on both days with 24.43s on Saturday and 24.21s on Sunday. He was driving his incredibly fast Gould-Judd single seater that is also powering him to ninth place in this years British Hillclmb Championship.

Shelsley specialist Young was followed into Second Best Time of the Day on Saturday by his wife Sue in the same car with a 25.92s run. Second Best Time of the Day on Sunday went to Bill Hutchins of Kenilworth making a 25.84s run driving his recently acquired Pilbeam MP72 that he shares with co-competitor Tony Luxton. This was a personal best-ever time for Bill at Shelsley Walsh.

Also featuring strongly was local driver Peter Cox from Abberley who ran his historic pre-1985 Chevron in with the modern over 2 litre single seaters and pronounced himself satisfied with his performance. MAC member Peter is enjoying local celebrity status after being recently crowned as Midland Hillclimb Champion.

Also well in the mix were two other local drivers, Will Hall from Romsley in his Force single seater and Nigel Morris from Rock in his DJ Firehawk. Morris was quickest on Saturday in their 1600cc class with a 27.21s run but on Sunday it was the turn of Hall with a 26.98s run.

Motorcycles also featured on Saturday and the outright motorbike hill record fell to Paul Jeffery with a 30.59s run on his 508cc Honda.
