Millroy And Motaworld Make The Podium

The Chatham-based Motaworld Racing team scored its best result so far in a support race to the Singapore Grand Prix at the weekend when new signing Ollie Millroy scored a sensational second place in the first Formula BMW Pacific Championship round.The BMW single-seaters were the first cars to try the new street circuit and paved the way for the Formula One stars. Millroy, 18, from Claygate, Surrey set the pace during qualifying but was forced to settle for third fastest time after the session was red-flagged while he was switching to a fresh set of tyres. Millroy, who is a former British karting champion, soon passed the championship leader, Hong Kong's Ross Jamison and went on to finish second in the race behind Doru Sechalariu.

Afterwards the European BMW Scholarship winner said “I made a good start and held my position and after the safety car went in I got a good run on Jamison along the main straight to move up to second. Although I kept gaining on the leader, it was pretty uneventful after that and that’s where I finished at the flag.”

He added “The Motaworld team has done a really good job this weekend and right from the start gave me a good car. As soon as I drove it I felt happy with the set-up and knew that a podium finish was achievable.”

Unfortunately in the second round Millroy’s car coasted to a halt on the first lap due to an electrical problem with the data logger.

Motaworld’s second driver, Asad Rahman continues to improve and he was rewarded with 15th and 11th places respectively.

Team owner Alan Waite said “Second place is a great result for Ollie and the Motaworld Racing team. We took the fight to the regular Asian teams and beat all but one of them.”

Millroy raced for Fisichella Motor Sport in Formula BMW Europe without success, but now he has found a set-up more to his liking. He said “Throughout the European championship I struggled with the car and couldn’t get a good grid position which meant I had an uphill struggle. This weekend however, Motaworld managed to give me a good car and that’s made the difference.  To finally be able to show my true ability and get my first podium finish in Formula BMW is a good feeling and has set me up for the rest of the year.”

Motaworld races again in the Formula BMW Pacific Championship at Shanghai on 18th/19th October.
