Race Academy winner secures....

PODIUM PLACE IN FIRST RACE

Dunlop Race Academy 2008 winner Roscoe Howell finished in 10th place during his first race at the Rockingham circuit over the weekend.

The oil refinery technician from Tenby competed in the Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup and moved up to 10th place after qualifying 14th out of 17 professional racing drivers.

Roscoe also celebrated with a podium win after finishing third within his class. When accepting the accolade Roscoe said: “I’ve had a great weekend at Rockingham and it was fantastic to get out on track as part of an actual championship race. I want to thank Dunlop for the opportunity which I will never forget.”

Meanwhile, Roscoe’s mentor and former Dunlop Race Academy winner, Simon Shaw qualified in poll place and went on to take his fifth win of the season in the Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup.

Simon took a strong lead early on in the race and maintained his pace throughout the 45-minute race to secure a comfortable win.

The event at Rockingham was the final Dunlop Great & British festival of the 2008 season. Alongside the Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup, spectators were treated to non-stop action from the fun filled MINI Challenge, Mini Se7en Championship and Mini Miglia Championship plus the super fast Radical UK Cup, the Westfield Sportscar Championship and the thunderous Pickup Truck Racing Championship.

James Bailey of Dunlop said: “The event at Rockingham drew Dunlop’s 120th birthday to a close and it has been a great year for us with the continued growth of our Great & British Motorsport Festivals and the Sport Maxx Cup.

“Roscoe should be incredibly proud of how he performed in his first race and we hope his experience within Race Academy will encourage him to continue in motorsport and hone his talent.”
