FM Champions race in GP2 Asia

Formula Master's recently crowned champion Chris van der Drift has already benefited from winning the Series this year by graduating to the GP2 Asia series.

The New Zealander will race in Shanghai this weekend with Trident Racing, only two weeks after he clinched the title in Formula Master's finale at Monza, Italy.

2007 Champion Jérôme D'Ambrosio will also race with the Dams team, following a strong first GP2 season which saw the Belgium driver claim two podiums.

"There are quite a few new drivers racing this weekend, with me included, and some others that have been driving for years," said van der Drift who was runner-up to D'Ambrosio in 2007. "For this weekend, I mainly hope to finish both races and then do well out of the new drivers. It's the first time we will race in Shanghai so it's an open contest!"

Fellow New Zealander and 2008 race winner Earl Bamber is also set to take part with My Team Qi-Meritus.Mahara, whilst Giacomo Ricci will join van der Drift at Trident Racing and Formula Master regular Yuhi Sekiguchi will drive for DPR.

2008 runner-up Fabio Leimer will also get a taste of GP2 with his prize of a testing session set to take place on 11 November at the Paul Ricard circuit with the Trident Racing team.
