A1 Team Korea continue progress

A1 Team Korea continued to make progress in its first season of A1GP on Monday, as the team completed a test programme at the Silverstone circuit in the UK.  Taking part in a collective test with five other teams, A1 Team Korea driver Jin-Woo Hwang gained more experience of the A1GP Powered by Ferrari car around the historic British track.

Last time out in the Netherlands, the team scored four points on its A1GP debut, finishing seventh in the rain soaked Feature race in Zandvoort.  Despite it being only his first A1GP event, 25 year old Hwang battled through the treacherous conditions to take valuable points on the team’s first outing.

With little chance for testing before the first race of the season last month, A1 Team Korea took the opportunity to test the new A1GP car at Silverstone, before the A1GP cars begin their round the world trip later this week, which will see the cars flown to countries such as China, Malaysia, New Zealand and Indonesia over the coming months.   The team took part in the first day of testing last Thursday, allowing Hwang his first real taste of the A1GP car in dry conditions.  Testing resumed again on Monday, with Hwang completing 64 laps before a hail storm cut short track action in the afternoon.

The team will used the valuable data gathered at the next round in Chengdu in just over a week’s time.   Speaking about the test, A1 Team Korea driver Jin-Woo Hwang said, “It was good to get more time in the car at Silverstone, and drive in the dry for a change!  I feel comfortable in the car, but it was nice to be able to take the time to learnt more and complete more laps, without the pressures of a race weekend.”

Team manager Martin Stone said, “As one of the newest teams in A1GP, every lap of testing is essential.  The Silverstone test was the first real opportunity for Jin to test the car in the dry, which is physically a much harder task than driving in the wet.  The A1GP car is a very advanced and very fast racing machine and we are pleased with the progress that Jin is making.  We were able to complete a detailed test programme at Silverstone, which has given us a better understanding of the car and Jin more experience behind the wheel.”
