GEMsport finishes on a high

 with championship success

 Welsh rally team GEMsport finished the season on a high at the weekend when young Meilyr Evans reinforced his speed and maturity on the Malton Forest Rally – tying for first place in the Fiesta SportingTrophy,

He was pipped to his maiden victory by Alastair Fisher who was fastest on the first of the eight competitive stages and took the win but nevertheless Meilyr was delighted with his performance.

“It was a tough rally and the conditions were really wet and slippy but everything went really well from the start and I really enjoyed the stages,’’ he said.

And the points haul ensured a third place overall in the championship for Meilyr – with team mate Elfyn Evans already champion having secured victory on the previous round in Scotland.

“It has been an amazing season for GEMsport,’’ said team boss Gwyndaf Evans who was on hand to congratulate Meilyr on his best result to date.

“To have secured championship victory with one round to go was amazing and then for Meilyr to perform so well in the hustings.com Fiesta this weekend was tremendous,’’ he said. “Getting both cars into the top three of such a competitive championship is quite an achievement for our first year.’’
