ew route for Tour Britannia

2009 date announced

The date for the 2009 Tour Britannia is 7th - 9th September and, in keeping with requests from competitors, it will remain a three day event but travel further a field with a new base in Yorkshire.

Following the very successful fourth running of the event in 2008, Tour Britannia asked its competitors what changes they would like to see made to the Race Tour’s format. With almost unanimous responses, Tour Britannia organisers have planned a new route which is also mindful of budgetary pressures.

Activities will kick off with Scrutineering and Documentation at Silverstone on the morning of Monday 7th September. Following a drivers’ briefing and buffet lunch at the BRDC Clubhouse, competitors will tackle the first race of the event at the circuit. A short drive through the Oxfordshire countryside will take the field to Cornbury Park where an extended version of the very popular stage will be run through Lord and Lady Rotherwick’s estate, before competitors return to Silverstone for dinner.

Tuesday morning Tour Britannia heads north. Two stages are on the menu before a lunchtime race at the incredibly popular Cadwell Park, Britain’s mini-Nurburgring. Then over the Humber Bridge and another stage before an overnight halt in Yorkshire.

An early start on Wednesday takes competitors through the great driving roads of the Yorkshire Moors to Croft Circuit. Then it’s the turn of the Yorkshire Dales; flowing roads and good visibility make for a great driving experience. Competition isn’t forgotten with three stages planned before the competitors return for the prize-giving and farewell dinner.

Competitors in the Regularity Category will follow exactly the same route but will be marked on consistency at the circuits. Additionally they will have their own road regularity sections each day where a strict average speed must be followed.

With its reputation for good organisation, great driving roads, top class food and friendly environment Tour Britannia goes from strength to strength and a top class entry is expected for the 2009 event.
