Silverstone WSbR date completes ..

RENAULT SPORT UK RACE CALENDARSilverstone Grand Prix circuit has been confirmed as the venue for the UK round of the 2009 World Series by Renault, the free motorsport festival that combines on-track racing and Formula One demonstrations with off-track family activities. The Northamptonshire circuit plays host to World Series by Renault on 4th/5th July, 2009, just two weeks after the British Grand Prix.

The announcement completes the race calendar for the 2009 Formula Renault UK with Michelin Championship and 2009 ELF Renault Clio Cup, which each have two races at World Series by Renault. Both one-make championships contest their remaining 18 rounds alongside the British Touring Car Championship at circuits across the UK, starting at Brands Hatch on 4th/5th April and including a visit to the Silverstone National circuit on 29th/30th August.

World Series by Renault has established itself as a major event on the British motorsport calendar and is the second-largest contemporary race meeting behind only the British GP with six-figure attendance figures in 2007 and 2008. While top-level International racing is the headline action at the free event, demonstrations by ING Renault F1 Team prove the highlight for many of the thousands of fans in attendance.

Renault’s policy of accessibility means the race paddock is open to the public throughout the weekend, including the chance to get up close to the modern Formula One car and its driver. A host of historic Renault race and rally cars take part in track demonstrations, while autograph sessions are available with all of the guest drivers.

Racing action comes from the Formula Renault 3.5 and Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 single-seater cars, plus the Eurocup Mégane Trophy, which features a stunning new car for 2009. In addition, the best of national British motorsport is on show in the form of the ELF Renault Clio Cup and Formula Renault UK Championship, which boasts back-to-back Formula One World Champions Kimi Räikkönen and Lewis Hamilton among its former champions.

Entertainment off-track includes motorsport-themed activities such as race simulators, Renault road-car safety demonstrations, a showcase of the latest Renault models and a variety of ING Renault F1 Team and Renault Sport merchandise boutiques.

Commenting on the announcement of Silverstone Grand Prix circuit as the venue for World Series by Renault in 2009, Renault UK Director of Press and PR Tim Jackson said: “We are delighted to be returning to Silverstone in 2009 after a hugely successful event there in 2008. A total of 110,000 spectators came to the meeting last season, including many who were experiencing a motorsport event for the first time. Free tickets ensure World Series by Renault is a great, low-cost day out for the whole family.”

Free tickets will be made available to request in 2009 via the World Series by Renault official website www.worldseriesbyrenault.com.
