Max Chilton winter testing in Valencia

Max had his second experience of the World Series Renault car at a very wintry test with Comtec at Valencia in Spain…..

The conditions were difficult at the Valencia track -  a venue that was completely new to Max, but he quickly settled into the test programme and learned the circuit.

Having been inside the top ten with his lap times at the Paul Ricard test three weeks ago, expectations were high for a similar performance at Valencia. However the Spanish track is renowned for its technical difficulty and physical challenges and Max didn’t get inside the top ten. He would have done if it wasn’t for a mistake on his new tyre run late on Thursday afternoon which cost him around six tenths of a second as he explained;

“I’ve found it harder here than at Paul Ricard but I know I’ve adjusted well to the different demands of this track. I braked a fraction too late for turn seven and ran wide on my new tyre run when everything was at its best. That cost me time and unfortunately at this level it’s the difference between being inside the top ten and out of it. I’ve learnt a lot here at Valencia and really enjoyed testing with the Comtec team again. I know I will be racing in Formula 3 again next season – but this gives me an excellent indication of where I need to be to hopefully move up to the World Series in a year’s time.”
