Record TV Ratings for V8 Utes

After eight rounds and the conclusion of the 2008 Yokohama V8 Utes Racing Series, official ratings provider OZTAM have concluded that just over 4.5 million viewers watched the V8 Ute series on Channel Seven throughout the year.

The figures were based on an average audience of 18 years plus, over the five capital Cities throughout Australia and regional markets.

Craig Denyer from SPHERIX, Category Manager of the V8 Ute series, says that it is the highest amount of coverage in the history of the series.

“We had double the amount of live races than in previous years, which underscores the popularity of the series and the ratings certainly reflect that.”

“The Utes are a firm crowd favourite both at the track and on the television and with this year’s series going down to the final round and final race – all televised live from Oran Park, the Championship literally came down to the last few laps.”

The Utes didn’t go unnoticed at the track either with total crowd figures for the year close to a million spectators accumulated over the eight rounds.

V8 Utes Australia are currently working through the 2009 television package on SEVEN which will again see a combination of live races and post produced one hour programmes.

V8 Utes are also televised on Fox Sports and in Europe through Motors TV, New Zealand through Prime TV and SKY and in Latin America  which will potentially open the viewing up to a further 10 million.

The Utes will kick off their season at Clipsal 500 in Adelaide 19 – 22 March and the 2009 TV Schedule will be displayed on the V8 Utes website (v8utes.com.au) in the coming weeks.
