Leonard Jnr signs for Parker Racing

Michael Leonard Jnr will attempt to follow in the footsteps of fellow Irishman Damien Faulkner when he contests the 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup GB, having signed with Team Parker Racing for the coming season.Faulkner won the overall Carrera Cup GB title in 2005 and 2006 with Team Parker Racing and now Leonard, from Naas in County Kildare, is stepping into the Pro-am1 category to race in the 20-race championship.Leonard, the former Irish Fiat Punto Mark 1 champion and a runner-up in the Irish Dunlop Supercar Championship, took two wins in the Pro-am2 category of the Carrera Cup GB last season at Oulton Park and Brands Hatch.For 2009, the Irish driver will join forces with Team Parker Racing, previous winners of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and teams' championship victors in 2008. Leonard will be sponsored by the Naas Court Hotel."Michael has made a seamless transition into Porsche racing and is a proven winner. I think he has what it takes to win the Pro-am1 title in 2009," said Stuart Parker, principal of Team Parker Racing."The Pro-am1 class is a difficult one to win, but I'm sure that by linking up with Team Parker Racing I can have a very successful season in 2009," said Leonard.
