Ascari roars back to British GT

The fearsome Ascari KZ1 of David and Godfrey Jones is set to return to the Avon Tyres British GT Championship in 2009, it is announced today (Fri). The 5-litre BMW V8-engined supercar will be fielded by Team Pyro in association with Mike Jordan's new JordanSport.co.uk organisation.

A frontrunner on its occasional British GT outings in 2008 and the Donington Park lap record holder, the Ascari will, Jordan hopes, prove a force with which to be reckoned: "The Ascari showed great pace in 2008 but didn't have the reliability to bring the results it deserved," he said.

Jordan will continue to be closely involved with the Leicestershire-based Jones brothers, and will work with the Pyro team on car development. "This is the ideal situation for all of us. Given the date clashes with the BTCC and some of the driver coaching work that my son Andrew and I are doing, it would make it difficult for me to successfully run a British GT programme. Having the Pyro team take over the running of the project is the perfect solution. I'll remain closely involved and we're already busy with an extensive development programme," added Mike.

"We have been looking to expand into GT racing for some time, and our strong links with Mike make this the perfect opportunity," said Mark Hunt, boss of the Barwell, Leicestershire-based Pyro team.

In addition to their British GT campaign, the Jonses plan to contest the Spa 24 Hour race in July, with Jordan joining the driver line-up.
