TO BE SUSPENDED IN THE UK

After careful consideration, it is with regret that the Suzuki Swift Sport Cup, the only manufacturer backed one-make rally series in the UK, is to be suspended by Suzuki Motor Corporation with immediate effect (the 2009 championship inclusive), due to the global economic downturn and current difficult trading conditions in the automotive sector. Resources will be dedicated to the launch of future products and related marketing activities.

The six-round Swift Sport Cup; which made its UK debut in 2008, saw teams compete in identical Sport Cup rally cars based on the popular road going hot hatch and provided participants with an accessible way of entering rallying.

Suzuki Motor Corporation will however continue to support private customers who are participating in the JWRC. The company would like to thank all UK sponsors and teams for their commitment to the series as well as those who supported the six rounds last year.
