SCUNTHORPE have been forced into a change of plans at National League level after Gary Irving elected to take time out of the sport.Irving, who made impressive progress last year, has had extensive surgery to remove metalwork from his leg.He said: "I started practicing for the new season, but I just don't feel right with it. I don't feel able to pursue a speedway career at this time."

SWINDON have confirmed plans to start their team racing season with a high-profile challenge match against Swedish champions Lejonen.The Robins will come up against their former riders Sebastian Ulamek and David Ruud, as well as Chris Holder, on March 19.Co-owner Gary Patchett said: "It provides us with a great opportunity for the team to get some competitive track time under their belts before we entertain Wolverhampton in the Cup."
