Lloyd Fastest Of Clio Newcomers

AT THRUXTON TEST

Daniel Lloyd got back behind the wheel of his Team Pyro-run ELF Renault Clio Cup car for the first time in three months on Friday, 20th February, during an unofficially timed test session at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire.

The 16-year-old West Yorkshire star certainly showed no signs of rustiness as he rapidly got up to speed. After familiarising himself with both his 2.0-litre Clio and the track, Daniel produced a best time of the day of 1m 24.7 seconds during session two – the quickest lap of any of the category newcomers.

Working on some set-up variations during the third of the day’s four 55-minute runs, the Scammonden-based driver concluded the test with a time of 1m 24.9 seconds during the fourth and final session.

“It was a good day, great to be back in the car after such a long time out of it and nice to have a full day’s running at Thruxton as testing there is very limited”, said Daniel, “I familiarised myself with the track in session one and then in session two we produced a lap of 1m 24.7 seconds.

“We know where we can improve and gain time but we were significantly quicker than the other drivers who are new to the championship. The team did a great job all day and I’m really enjoying working with them. I can’t wait now for the next test in a couple of weeks.”

Backed by Propack, The Workplace, Hoyer (UK) and NW Print for his debut season in the British Touring Car Championship-supporting ELF Renault Clio Cup, Daniel is still working hard to expand his 2009 sponsorship portfolio.

The next test outing for Daniel will come on Tuesday, 3rd March, a day before his 17th birthday, at Oulton Park Island Circuit in Cheshire. The championship season itself will begin on 4th/5th April at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, Kent.
