This year’s Formula 3 campaign got underway at Snetterton this week with the first official test day of the season……

Max declared himself very happy with his new team – Carlin Motorsport and was clearly satisfied with the new engine package from Volkswagen that the team has switched to for 2009.

Damp conditions greeted the teams at the Norfolk venue and running on wet tyres Max traded fastest times with the other Carlin drivers and as the weather improved, switched to slick tyres just before the lunch break.

In dry running during the afternoon Max set the fastest time of the Carlin team and was half a second under the circuit lap record;

“We had a good day today” the 17 year old commented after the test, “In both wet and dry conditions we found a good set up quickly and the team have got an excellent understanding of the new Dallara package already. The Volkswagen engine is obviously very strong and I can’t wait for the races to begin. There is a really good atmosphere in the team with the other drivers and it’s pretty close between all of us. I think the competition within Carlin will lift us to a new level and I’m very confident going into the new season.”

The next official test is at Oulton Park in two weeks time.
