Motors TV Weekly Highlights

21st – 27th March

ALMS: 12 Hours of Sebring - LIVEOne of the most eagerly anticipated races in sportscar history finally gets the green light this weekend as the 12 Hours of Sebring raises the curtain on another ALMS season. It’s been a winter of posturing, speculation and spyshots as Audi and Acura developed their new P1 charges clouded in a veil of secrecy. The result is a mouth watering confrontation between themselves and Peugeot whose updated 908 adds a third dimension to this intriguing battle. Throw in a host of privateers and a P2 contingent capable of upsetting the form book (a P2 Porsche took outright victory in 2008) and you’ve got an endurance event of epic proportions. That’s why we’ll have all 12 hours of Sebring live, exclusive and uninterrupted so you needn’t miss a thing.

The clap of thunder Down-Under can be heard across the High Speed Television Channel this weekend as the V8 Supercars rumble back into life for 2009. The opening round of the campaign sees drivers and teams travel to Adelaide for the Clipsal 500 where reigning champion Jamie Whincup kicked off last season with a double win. His rivals will be wary of a repeat performance this time around with Mark Winterbottom, Garth Tander and Craig Lowndes all hoping to get their title challenges off to the best possible start.

FIM World Enduro ChampionshipsThe opening round of the new WEC season comes from Penafiel in Portugal where Briton David Knight will mark his return to the championship. Like a hero arriving home from battle, the BMW rider has been busy cleaning-up the GNCC crown Stateside for the past couple of years but, apparently bored with slaughtering America’s best, has now returned triumphant to reclaim what is rightfully his – a third WEC and fifth successive world title. He’ll face stiff opposition in the top E3 class however from a horde of rampaging Finns, hell bent on keeping the championship firmly in Scandinavian hands. Catch highlights of the two-day event as the world’s best riders tackle the worst Mother Nature can throw at them.

USA National SpeedwayAnother new championship in the Motors TV stable makes its debut this week with coverage of 2008’s USA National Speedway Spring Classic meeting. Four riders side-by-side and knee down all the way around a greyhound track might seem a little bizarre on paper, but it’s actually quite a spectacle, especially when the laws of physics give way. Expect broken man and machines aplenty.    USA National Speedway, Spring ClassicSunday, 22nd March, 20:00

 Mobil 1 – The Grid

Oil giants Mobil 1 love motorsport so much that they’ve only gone and bagged the naming rights to this motorsport magazine package. The Grid features all the very best championships from planet motorsport, squashing F1, IRL, NASCAR, WRC and others into a weekly half-hour of high-octane entertainment.

Mobil 1 – The GridFriday, 27th March, 21:00Mini StoryWith 40 odd years of heritage behind it, surely it was only a matter of time before Britain’s greatest export got its own show. And, thanks to Motors TV, this week’s automotive documentary themed Thursday night sees just that as Mini Story takes up its rightful prime-time slot just ahead of the critically acclaimed Pilot Stories: Part 2. Prestigious indeed. Anyway, only a robot would fail to be captivated by British Leyland’s biggest success story which, after a decent 41 year innings, finally retired, not out, in 2000.
